Welcome to the European Solar Engineering School!

The European Solar Engineering School (ESES) provides a unique education in solar engineering at Högskolan Dalarna. The one year Masters program is based on research work at the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC). The program provides proficiency in all main solar engineering subjects and allows the students after graduating to work as experts in the solar industry and in academic reserach. This webpage is made by actual and former ESES students and provides information about the program, the life in Borlänge and serves as a meeting point for current, former and prospective students.

Above the new ESES class, the twelfth batch since the start of the Masters programme, together with Mats Rönnelid.

ESES Master thesis project at PSA in Spain

This academic year, one of the ESES thesis project has been carried out at the largest solar research center in Europe: The Plataforma Solar de Almeria (PSA). The PSA in Almeria, Spain (www.psa.es) is one of the most internationally recognized research centers for solar concentrating technologies. The ESES student Maria Elena Cantos-Soto studied as her thesis project at PSA the “Optimization of cleaning methods for parabolic-trough concentrating solar power plants”. CSP field performance depends strongly on the parabolic-trough concentrating mirrors reflectance. For that reason, PTC mirrors need to have an optimal level of cleanness to enable the reflection of the solar beam into the focal line, and therefore, washing CSP mirrors represents one of the most costly O&M tasks. Hence, not just keeping a suitable reflectance level but also make it cost-effective is a crucial issue for CSP fields.

More and more students are applying for our Master's programme in Solar Engineering. In total about 1000 applications have been submitted for ESES. About 800 students applied at the first round for Non-European students in the beginning of the year. 70 of them have been offered a place in the programme. For the second round of applications (mainly for European students) we received about 200 applications. Including Erasmus and agreements students about 90 applicants were  finally admitted.

For the new arrived students an introduction to the program by the program coordinator is provided during the following occasions:

- Friday 27/08 13.30-14.00 at the student union building called Tenoren. Tenoren is just across the road of the University main building.

- Monday 30/08 9.30-10.00 at room B310 in the main buiding

Welcome!
